About Us

The Enfield Community Chorus (ECC) has been making music and having fun since 1976!  The group is comprised of sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses.  Juliane LaRocca directs the group, and the talented Jonathan O’Brien is our accompanist.

Emily Clifford is the President of the ECC and welcomes your questions or comments at EnfieldCommunityChorus@gmail.com

Our History

The Enfield Community Chorus was founded in 1976 when Alice Allen and Joyce Young collaborated on a musical, “200 Years of American Music” to present as part of Enfield’s bicentennial celebration.  Brad Davis, of radio and TV fame, was the narrator.  Sixty singers culled from local choirs joined together and enjoyed the experience so much that the group has continued to present annual Christmas concerts and, for a time, Easter concerts as well. Three members of the original group are still singing with the group:  Barbara Sackett, Cindy Violette, and Joyce Young.

Ms. Juliane LaRocca made her debut as director during the highly successful 2012 season.  Others who have made important contributions are Mrs. Allen, who retired as director after serving for 20 years, and Mrs. Ginny Davis has just retired after over 10 years as director.  Mrs. Beryl Comparetto, Mrs. Judi Sedor, Ms. Nancy Davis, Mrs. Jane LaRocca, and Juliane LaRocca have served as accompanists for the group.  Mrs. Young served as President of the Board of Directors from 1996 until her resignation at the end of 2022.  The Board of Directors voted Ms. Emily Clifford as President Pro Tempore to complete Mrs. Young’s term.  At the end of 2023, the chorus voted for Emily Clifford to be the next President of the chorus.

During its 40 years, the chorus has performed at other churches, the maximum security prison in Enfield/Somers, the 125th anniversary celebration of the building of Hazardville United Methodist Church, and at the Town of Enfield’s 2000 millennium celebration.

The group has expanded beyond town lines and has members from Enfield, Somers, Suffield, Windsor Locks, East Windsor, South Windsor, Stafford Springs, Vernon, and Windsor.   The current age range of chorus members runs from 20s to 80+ years old.  While the Enfield Community Chorus is a non-auditioning group, members should have had past choral or musical experience, and should be able to read music.

Today’s Enfield Community Chorus

Currently, the group averages about 50 members.  As of 2023, the chorus has moved from the Hazardville United Methodist Church and all rehearsals and concerts will now be held at the Town Annex (Fermi High School).  Our Winter concerts are a highlight of the holiday season and are very popular with audiences of all ages.

As the Enfield Community Chorus continues to grow and set new goals, we are very excited to become more visible in the community.  We believe that the act of singing and performing music brings so many benefits to our members, so join the Enfield Community Chorus and see the impact on your life!  We are always accepting new members!  Hope to hear from you soon!
